David Hancock, PhD

David is the owner of A Focused Mind Sports Consulting and a professional member of the Canadian Sport Psychology Association (https://www.cspa-acps.com/). His areas of expertise include goal setting, building confidence, maintaining focus, managing competitive anxiety, and achieving peak performance. He has a passion for sports at all levels, and has been a hockey referee for over 20 years.

David is an Associate Professor in the School of Human Kinetics at Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John’s, NL, Canada. He teaches Sport Psychology, Coaching, Growth & Development, and Sociology of Sport. His main research priorities include sport officials and youth sport.

David was born and raised in Ontario, attending Laurentian University (B.A. Hons, Sport Psychology; M.A., Human Development) and University of Ottawa (PhD, Human Kinetics). He completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Queen’s University, before taking a position as an Assistant Professor at Indiana University. David now lives in Torbay, NL with his wife, son, and dog.
